Murungakkai Rasam Recipe | Drumstick Rasam Recipe
Drumstick is a unique kind of vegetable which is widely available during summer. I always prefer to do drumstick sambar. The taste of sambar will be more enhanced by a drumstick. This time I wanted to try a different recipe with murungakkai and my top-of-the-list option was the murungakkai rasam recipe. It turned out one of my most favorite recipes.
Rasam is a friendly food for our tummy. This Drumstick rasam recipe is spicy and tangy. The unique flavor and smell of drumstick help to enhance the flavor of rasam. This is a perfect combination with hot rice after a sambar or heavy meal. Drumstick rasam is also a low-fat vegan-friendly recipe.
Murungakkai Rasam Recipe
In cooking a pan add 1 tbsp of gingelly oil. I prefer to use gingelly oil for its earthy smell and goodness however you can also use Coconut oil or any vegetable oil of your choice.
Take 1tbsp of gingelly oil to a pan. Add mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves for tempering.
Add 2 finely chopped shallots and 4 crushed garlic. Saute to golden brown by adding a pinch of salt
Add chopped drumstick and saute for about 2 mins
Puree two medium tomatoes in a blender or even you can smash them with your hands.
Add coriander powder, Rasam powder, cumin powder, and pepper powder. Add salt to taste and mix well.
Chop and add some coriander leaves.
Allow the drumstick to get cooked in low flame. Slow cooking helps to absorb the flavors better.
Once the drumstick is well cooked the drumstick rasam is ready to be served with hot rice, even this can be consumed as drumstick soup.
I have shown you a no tamarind version of the murungakkai rasam recipe however you can puree and add a small ball size of tamarind. You can reduce the tomatoes to one. This makes the rasam recipe tangy
This recipe can be made without rasam powder by adding coriander powder, Chilli powder, cumin powder, and pepper powder.
The pulp from the drumstick can be removed and mixed into the rasam for a drumstick soup recipe.

Add Chopped Drumstick and saute for a minute.
Puree two riped medium-sized tomatoes and add slowly to the pan.
Add 1/2 tsp of coriander powder
Add in 1/2 tsp of Rasam Powder
1/2 tsp of cumin powder
Add in 1/4 tsp of pepper powder
Salt to taste.
Add in few coriander leaves. Keep the flame in medium-low. Turn off the stove once the drumsticks are cooked well.
