Today I tried this Crispy Honey Gobi which is an Indo-Chinese version of Gobi fry with a mild sweet touch using honey. Honey gives an exotic flavor to the dish and enhances the taste. Fried cauliflower tossed in chili tomato sauce with a honey layer on top is really a mouthwatering recipe.

How to prepare?

This Indo Chinese version does not need any complex ingredients and you can easily try this recipe with the simple ingredients available at home.
  • Fry parboiled cauliflower in cornflour mixture
  • Grind tomato and chili for the sauce
  • Toss the fried cauliflower into the chili sauce
  • Finally, add a tbsp of honey to enhance the flavor

    For Frying
  • 250 g Cauliflower
  • 1/3 cup corn flour
  • 1/4 cup maida
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 cup oil (For deep frying)
  • Chilli Tomato Sauce
  • 1-Large stick tomato (Take two if tomato is small)
  • 2 stick Red Chilli
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Honey Gobi Fry
  • 1 stick onion (Cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (Adjust as per taste)
  • 250 g Fried Cauliflower
  • 1 cup Chilli Tomato Sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp Jaggery
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp White Sesame Seeds
  • 3 stick Garlic (Thinly Sliced)
  • 1 stick Ginger (Thinly Sliced)
    For Cauliflower Fry
  1. Soak about 250 grams of cauliflower in hot water.
  2. Add about 1/3 cups of cornflour in a mixing bowl
  3. Add 1/4 cups of maida
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Add less than 1 tbsp of chili powder
  6. Mix all the dry ingredients
  7. Strain water from cauliflower and add into the flour mixture
  8. Mix nicely until all the ingredients are nicely combined. Sprinkle little water if needed.
  9. Heat enough oil in medium-low and fry cauliflowers in separate batches
  10. Take out once it is cooked and turns a golden color
  11. Chilli Tomato Sauce
  12. Add tomatoes, red chili and enough salt in a mixer grinder
  13. Grind it to a coarse paste
  14. Honey Gobi
  15. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add finely chopped ginger and garlic in high heat
  16. Add in onions cut into cubes. Add a pinch of salt to onions for taste
  17. Add in Chilli tomato sauce once the onions are half cooked.
  18. Add salt to taste
  19. Add in Chilli powder.
  20. Add in jaggery and saute till the raw smell goes off.
  21. Add in fried Cauliflowers and mix until they are nicely combined.
  22. Add in our hero ingredient honey.
  23. Sprinkle some white sesame seeds on top.
  24. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve
Recipe Notes

  • Do not cook the onions completely before adding tomato chili sauce.
  • White sesame seeds are recommended for a crunch in every bite
